April Web Series Feature Friends in Baton Rouge and Partners in China

April 7, 2010

The April installments of Episcopal Relief & Development’s two popular web series, Friends of Episcopal Relief & Development and the Power of Partnerships, are now available online. Each month, these series highlight the work of those collaborating with the agency to help people affected by poverty and disease worldwide.

This month’s Friends of Episcopal Relief & Development article highlights the work of students at Episcopal Lower School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. With the guidance of school administrator Cheryl Ollmann, the students participate in an annual fundraiser for Episcopal Relief & Development’s Gifts for Life program. By working together to make items to sell at their school fair, the students raise money to purchase gifts from the alternative gift catalog that make a tangible difference in the lives of others.

Episcopal Relief & Development’s work with the Amity Foundation, a voluntary Chinese organization focused on people-centered development, is the focus of April’s Power of Partnerships. By collaborating with Amity on an integrated community development project, Episcopal Relief & Development is helping provide solar power to an isolated mountain village of the Yushu Tibetan Prefecture in China’s Qinghai province. This partnership is changing the lives of an entire community.
