July Web Series Feature Partners in Kenya and Friends in Ohio

July 15, 2010

The July installments of Episcopal Relief & Development’s two popular web series, Friends of Episcopal Relief & Development and Power of Partnerships, are now available online. Each month, these series highlight the work of those collaborating with the agency to help people affected by poverty and disease worldwide.

The development work of Kenya-based Inter Diocesan Christian Community Services (IDCCS), a longtime partner of Episcopal Relief & Development, is the focus of this month’s Power of Partnerships feature. With help from Episcopal Relief & Development, IDCCS is installing water tanks in rural communities and providing equipment and training for local cooperatives to run small businesses. Aside from feeding their own families, cooperative members are able to earn income from these projects, which boosts the local economy and raises the quality of life in the community.

July’s installment of Friends of Episcopal Relief & Development celebrates the success of a fashion fundraiser held by St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Dayton, Ohio. “Project ReRunway” began as a simple promotional event for the church’s annual rummage sale. However, tremendous community support and the help of local celebrities turned the evening into an extravaganza, which raised over $6,100 for Episcopal Relief & Development’s relief efforts in Haiti. Since the catastrophic earthquake in January, the agency has worked to increase support for the emergency-response and recovery initiatives of its longtime partner in the region, the Episcopal Diocese of Haiti.
