March Web Features Highlight Partners in Zambia and Friends in Virginia

March 15, 2012

This month’s Power of Partnerships illustrates the impact of women’s empowerment and gender awareness programs in rural communities, with a story about a woman who invited her husband to participate with her in an adult literacy program and craft training workshop. Learning and growing together, the couple is now prospering and participating fully in the life of their community. The integrated program is run by the Zambia Anglican Council (ZAC), Episcopal Relief & Development’s partner in the country.

March’s Friends of Episcopal Relief & Development celebrates an important milestone with the Bruton Parish Shop in historic Williamsburg, Virginia. In its 16 years of operation, through the efforts of countless volunteers, the shop – which is affiliated with one of the oldest continually operating Episcopal churches in the United States – has raised over $2 million in outreach funding for ministries and non-profit organizations, such as Episcopal Relief & Development.

The monthly Power of Partnerships and Friends of Episcopal Relief & Development web features present stories about the agency’s partners in the US and worldwide. Episcopal Relief & Development is the international relief and development agency of the Episcopal Church and an independent 501(c)(3) organization. The agency takes its mandate from Jesus’ words found in Matthew 25. Its programs work towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals. Episcopal Relief & Development works closely with the worldwide Church and ecumenical partners to help rebuild after disasters and to empower local communities to find lasting solutions that fight poverty, hunger and disease, including HIV/AIDS and malaria.
