Episcopal Relief & Development works with faith and community-based organizations and other local leaders to tackle complex challenges with hope and dignity. The 2024 Impact Report tells the stories of Elizabeth, a young mother in Kenya who learned to nurture her child; Brigite and Orionzi, a couple in the Democratic Republic of the Congo who speak out for equality; Lubia, an entrepreneur from Guatemala who now has savings and investment skills to go far; and Linda, a Hurricane Helene survivor whose community helped her begin to recover.

Reflections from Our Leadership

“It is a privilege to serve as Chair of the Board of Episcopal Relief & Development, following many years of collaboration with my predecessor, Teri Lawver. Our Board remains committed to stewarding the organization’s mission with diligence and foresight. We are grateful to the global network of partners, coalitions, staff and supporters whose collective efforts have built a resilient foundation for impact. Looking ahead, we are focused on strengthening internal infrastructure and deepening investment in the expertise and capacity of our global partners—so that together we can equip communities to lead sustainable change rooted in local leadership and faith.”

Matt Silva, Board Chair

“In 2024, we reached nearly five million people worldwide through enduring partnerships with the Anglican Communion, The Episcopal Church and other faith-based organizations. These alliances are built on trust, shared values and a commitment to sustainable impact. Together, we’ve nurtured and deepened relationships with grassroots partners—co-creating programs led by local communities that build resilience and strength for the long haul. Whether responding to crises or supporting long-term development, we invest in local leadership and draw on local expertise. Through our growing global network of faith communities, we are shifting systems and ensuring sustainable and lasting change where it is most needed.”

Honoring Martha Gardner

Every human being has dreams and potential. I want to do whatever it takes to enable someone to reach their full potential.” –Martha Gardner

Martha Gardner has been an Episcopal Relief & Development Ministry Partner for almost 20 years. In 2024, she received the Canon Joyce Hogg Award. Given annually since Canon Hogg’s passing in 2006, the award recognizes a Ministry Partner who exemplifies compassion, generosity and hardworking commitment to service.

Recently retired from the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts where she had been the Missioner for Networking and Formation since 2018, Martha has dedicated her professional life to bringing people together, creating connections and building community to drive change.

We honor Martha, and thank her for working with us for lasting change.

Financials

Episcopal Relief & Development is deeply grateful to our loyal and generous community of supporters. In 2024, we received almost 60,000 gifts, which allowed us to devote over $28 million to advancing lasting change. In 2024, we were able to provide $7.4 million in support to those impacted by disasters around the world, a quarter of that in the US, while investing over $20.8 million in our international sustainable development programs. Over 50% of our revenue comes from individual donors like you, and we take that trust very seriously.

We honor your generosity by holding ourselves to the highest standards of excellence and accountability. Episcopal Relief & Development meets all 20 Better Business Bureau Standards for Charity Accountability, and earned a four star rating (the highest rating) from Charity Navigator and a Gold Seal of Transparency from Candid. We are involved in cooperative efforts through the Anglican Alliance, InterAction and other agencies to improve practices throughout the relief and development community.
