Episcopal Relief & Development Releases Toolkits to Help Faith Communities Respond to Critical Global Challenges

Press Release

August 19, 2025

Episcopal Relief & Development has launched a set of four practical toolkits designed to help congregations, schools, campus ministries and other faith communities examine global challenges and respond.

The toolkits invite deeper understanding of urgent challenges including the needs of young children, family and community violence, the effects of climate change, and increasingly frequent disasters while equipping users to take meaningful action.

Each toolkit is based on one of Episcopal Relief & Development’s four core areas: Early Childhood Development, Women and Girls, Climate Resilience and Disaster Response. Toolkits include surveys, sermon starters, liturgies and age-appropriate study materials to support asset-based community programming. Templates are also provided to help launch fundraising campaigns in support of Episcopal Relief & Development’s work.

“Our members are in constant spiritual and emotional flux with deaths, births, diagnoses, promotions, economic instability and everything happening in the world,” said Heidi J.A. Carter, a longtime lay leader in The Episcopal Church and writer and collaborator on the toolkits. “These Episcopal Relief & Development toolkits offer faith leaders ways to help our communities discern their response to what’s going on in the world at any given time.”

The toolkits can be integrated into youth and adult formation programs or used as part of existing communications and ministry efforts.

“We hope these toolkits inspire and guide faith institutions to engage more deeply in our shared mission,” said Chad Brinkman, Director, Faith Fundraising, Episcopal Relief & Development. “They’re designed to be used in different seasons and settings—whether that means using them on a single Sunday or long-term. Every action, big or small, contributes to lasting change.”
