Gifts of Love, Gifts for Life!

Nov 11, 2014 4:02:18 PM

Advent is a season to anticipate the coming of Christ. And what better way to celebrate the spirit of the Christ Child, than to love one another as Christ loved us!

The room at the top of the stairs is a shared home office. The Reverend Alden Besse is on the left, his wife Barbara on the right. Hers has a computer and file cabinets. She’s the organized one, the one who does e-mail. Alden’s side of the room is awash in post-its, newspaper clippings, books and small mountains of other stuff. One desk chair looks to be in a permanently supine position. It appears quite possible that a small but powerful bomb just went off.

Giving in the Midst of Gratitude

We love the creative ways people come together to raise awareness around Episcopal Relief & Development. This year we’ve seen a BBQ contest in Texas, a bike riding fundraiser in Virginia and a festival in Connecticut, just to name a few.

Bok choy is not the only thing to grow in the fertile soil of The Falls Church Episcopal in Falls Church, VA.  It seems that people are also part of the harvest in this revitalized fellowship.

Holy Cow, It’s Gifts for Life!

It was five years ago that Ms. Betsy Davis and her sister first donned a cow costume for the annual Christmas Pageant.  “The cow didn’t look anything like a cow, so I hung a sign around its neck that said Holy Cow,” said Ms. Davis.  The Holy Cow costume has become a staple in the Christmas celebration of the parish.

A wave of revitalization has swept over Grace Episcopal Church in Whitestone, NY.  The economic downturn of 2008 had hit congregations across the country, and Grace was no exception, but a new rector sparked a movement to get the church growing again.

Barbecue is serious business in Austin, Texas.  But it’s also a great way to bring people together for food, fun, fellowship, and a bit of friendly competition!

Surrounded by natural splendor in Pacific Palisades, California, St. Matthew’s Parish School is the perfect setting for students to learn about God’s abundant Creation.  With rolling hills, open meadows and groves of oak trees, the school grounds make a paradise where students can explore and develop their skills and interests.

Atlanta Diocese Unites to Stop Malaria

Apr 18, 2013 11:51:09 PM

Atlanta has played a major part in the fight against malaria, both historically in the United States and now as a major force in the NetsforLife® Inspiration Fund, Episcopal Relief & Development’s church-wide, grassroots effort to raise awareness and support for malaria prevention.

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Jacksonville, Florida, celebrated Episcopal Relief & Development Sunday this year by entertaining two very special guests named Julia and Martha. Julia and Martha visited the Godly Play students (ages three to eight) to share a meal, get to know each other and raise awareness about the impact of Episcopal Relief & Development’s Gifts for Life program.
