Episcopal Relief & Development is supporting the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles in response to the 1,000 acre Sandalwood Fire which destroyed 76 structures in the Villa Calimesa Mobile Home Park in Calimesa, CA.

The Sandalwood Fire broke out last week when a trash truck dumped burning garbage in the area. By Monday night, October 14, the fire was 100% contained and evacuation orders had been lifted, however, the area remained closed to residents.

With the support of Episcopal Relief & Development, St. Stephen’s Episcopal and St. Alban’s Church immediately set up a pop-up disaster response center at the Calimesa Senior Center. Clergy and volunteers distributed gift cards to assist survivors in purchasing emergency household supplies.

“The Diocese of Los Angeles and these two congregations sprung into action to respond to the Sandalwood Fire, taking advantage of their existing relationships in the community in order to address the needs of people who were impacted,” said Katie Mears, Senior Director, US Disaster Program for Episcopal Relief & Development. “We appreciate their quick response and compassion to serve the most vulnerable.”

Please continue to pray for the individuals and families affected by the Sandalwood Fire. Learn more about Episcopal Relief & Development’s US Disaster program here.
